Cocoa Bean Shells

Our flagship export — cleaned, low-moisture shells for energy, feed and soil.

Shells are the husks separated from the kernel during winnowing. Our flagship export is cleaned, screened and dried to a low, stable moisture so it burns evenly, stores safely and handles cleanly through augers and dosing lines.

Supplied in bulk or bagged for biomass plants, feed mills, mulch blenders and brewers — in full containers only.

Minimum order: 1 shipping container. We handle bulk orders only. Please contact us to confirm the appropriate container size, product loading capacity, availability, and shipping arrangements.

Background & commercial significance

For decades shells were treated as factory waste. As energy costs rose and circular production spread, cocoa shells became a traded biomass fuel and soil input: fibrous, residual cocoa aroma, and available wherever beans are winnowed at scale.

General commodity information below is educational. HB33 lot-specific details are confirmed per inquiry.

Common uses & applications

  • Biomass fuel — Pellets and direct firing for boilers, kilns and renewable plants.
  • Animal feed — Fibre ingredient for ruminant rations within regulated inclusion rates.
  • Mulch & soil — Decorative, cocoa-scented mulch and compost feedstock.
  • Brewing & extraction — Cocoa-shell tea, brewing adjuncts and theobromine recovery streams.

Quality, handling & storage

Shells are dried after separation and stored under cover. Keep dry in transit and at warehouse; high-moisture storage causes caking and mould.

Packaging & bulk shipping

  • Loose bulk, 500–1000 kg big-bags, or 25–50 kg PP bags.
  • Ground or pellet-grade preparation available for contracted volumes.
  • Container stuffing supervised with weight tickets per lot.

Typical buyers & industries

  • Biomass plants

Renewable-energy operators needing clean, even-burning feedstock.

  • Feed mills

    High-volume compounders running shell-inclusive rations.

  • Horticulture blenders

Mulch and compost producers serving growers and retail.

  • Brewers & extractors

Drinks and ingredient makers using shell character.

Product questions

Can shells be pelletised?

Yes — low-moisture screened shells pelletise well. Confirm grind size with us before ordering.

Are they suitable for animal feed?

They are commonly used in ruminant rations within regulated theobromine limits — check your local feed rules and confirm inclusion rates with your nutritionist.

Bulk or bagged?

Both. Energy users usually take bulk or big-bags; horticulture and brewing usually take 25–50 kg bags.
